We believe that we have a truly unique and untouchable value proposition for our customers, and it’s something that spells success for our franchisees as well… our BREAD!

Really? Really!

We make bread from scratch every day, at every location. No other sub concept has committed to making bread this way. Nobody! Is it because no one cares? Of course not, the word “Fresh” has become as commonplace as the word “groovy” at a Grateful Dead show! With so much attention and emphasis on “fresh” food, why is it that other sub-concepts are content with serving frozen par-baked bread rolls? Ask anyone about Planet Sub’s homemade bread, however, and they’re liable to start salivating! Simply put, we are known for our bread!

Is it a labor of love? Yes. Does it require additional real estate space to allow for a mixer? Yes. Does it take a lot of time and energy? You betcha. But can you taste the difference? Abso-freakin’-lutely, it’s what drives people back through our doors every single day; it’s been that way for 13 years.

And we don’t stop there!

We also slice the meats and cheeses by hand in the store, we make our guacamole from scratch, we slice cucumbers, tomatoes, mushrooms, green and red bell peppers, we even marinate our 5-grain Tempeh and bake it fresh for those looking for vegetarian options. We use high-grade pesto, meatballs, and even prepare fresh portobello mushrooms daily. Even our sauces are made from scratch using our signature recipes. Essentially, we make everything sensible from scratch each day at each store. This is something that makes our employees proud of what they do, and invites them to participate in the brand. It’s a flashback to a time when food was prepared with passion, and served with pride. In today’s fast-paced atmosphere, where even the food we eat seems to be mass produced by machines, Planet Sub represents more than just good food; it’s a break from the fake, and one you can taste!

Where We’ve Been

From the beginning, when Sean Kelly and Jeff Klusman decided to shed their suits and start on a new adventure with family and friends, Planet Sub has always felt like a break from the hustle and bustle of the corporate cookie cutter lifestyle we have all become so accustomed to.

Sean and Jeff opened their first Planet Sub franchise in 1998 and shared with their hometown a sandwich that has since become a Kansas City tradition. Planet Sub has proven their commitment to quality over the years by continuing to make their bread from scratch in each and every location, letting the Planet Sub family participate in being part of the homemade process.Making bread from scratch at each location has allowed our employees to see Planet Sub’s commitment to quality first hand and helped them understand what Planet Sub is all about.

What Planet Sub Stands For

In an industry dominated by factory food production, ever-lowering food quality in exchange for higher profits, and a lack of regard for the workforce, Planet Sub stands alone in their reluctance to change from their vision of being the most “from-scratch” sandwich chain in the world. While other companies may focus on the word “fresh”, Planet Sub is the only company mixing, rolling, proofing, and baking each loaf of bread in the store daily. It’s a labor of love, but it’s one that customers can taste. Planet Sub also believes in the value of employees as a key pillar of success. For instance, many Planet Sub managers started making sandwiches in their teenage years, and 15 years later are now leading teams of teenagers at the very store they started working in.
