Snack On This

Lunch is a time of day that usually gets away from us before we know it. Either we plan to prepare for an upcoming meeting or we slide chips into our mouths without breaking eye contact with the computer. What entrepreneurs and business owners tend to forget is that our breaks have an impact on our job performance. Make your lunch a more rewarding experience.

If you have spent the last few weeks (or years) eating at your desk while you continue to work, it is time to switch up the routine. You deserve a break. In fact, you need one if you want to keep producing top-notch work. Your mind requires time to recharge and refocus. If you don’t deviate at all from the task at hand, than you’re limiting its ability to relax thus, risking your productivity (and maybe even your sanity).

Eat. This is lunch. Put an honest effort in to either packing a well-rounded, nutritious meal or go out with some co-workers to a nearby café. Either way, be smart about how you fuel your body and use the time to connect with other coworkers. Unwind, take a few deep breaths and enjoy the time you’ve earned.

Several articles support the evidence that stepping away from your work desk and, if you’re able to, getting some exercise in is a good way to rejuvenate the body and mind. By exercise, some people find it very beneficial to complete some stretches or go for a 15-20 minute walk. Others take it a step further and get a heartier workout in during the day. Whichever you prefer, try to at least get some small movements into your routine.

The middle of the day is a good time to take care of some errands – just take care not to go overboard. Cross off the quick trips from your to-do list such as the bank or the post office. Just make sure that you aren’t letting these quick errands overrun your valuable lunchtime. No matter what you decide to do, you want to make sure you are using your break to its full advantage.

Lunch is as important to your day as any other task. Remind yourself of that fact and start enjoying the time you have! Bon appetite!
