It's important to understand the major parts of the foot, when you are trying to describe foot pain to either your Good Feet certified arch support specialist, or to your foot healthcare provider.
The forefoot - the forefoot is made up of the phalanges which are the toes and is responsible for grabbing and providing balance;
the midfoot - the midfoot is made up of the metatarsals which form the arch of the foot. This arch provides stability for the foot to move from heel to toe;
the rearfoot - the rearfoot is made up of the Calacaneous (Heel bone), the Talus (the shock absorbing bone) and the Tarsus bones which accept and transfer your weight to the rest of the foot;
the plantar fascia - the plantar fascia (also called the plantar aponeurosis) is a band of tissue that connects the heel bone to the toes.
