Responsible pet owners take their pet ownership commitment seriously. Our Kennelwood Pet Resorts co-workers are passionate about pets and we’re here to help you be the best responsible pet owner you can be. Below are a few questions to ask yourself as a pet owner.
• How often should your pet visit the veterinarian?
• How much exercise does your pet need?
• How often should your pet be groomed?
• Do you practice training commands with your dog?
• Do you keep your dog safe?
The following answers are suggested guidelines.
How often should your pet visit the veterinarian?
?Pets need annual wellness checks and vaccination updates. Dogs age faster than humans, and as they get older they will need even more frequent checkups.
How much exercise does your pet need?
Dogs of all activity levels need daily exercise for their health and well-being. While walking in the heat of summer or the cold of winter doesn’t sound appealing, it is part of being a responsible pet owner. An excellent alternative is contacting a Kennelwood Pet Resorts Personal Trainer about teaching your pet how to walk on the treadmill! DayCamp is also a great way for your pet to socialize and get exercise.
How often should your pet be groomed?
Every four to six weeks is fairly standard for most breeds. Regular brushing, bathing and nail trims help to keep your pet comfortable and clean. Having a grooming schedule and a relationship with a groomer allows for another pair of hands to regularly check your pet over for lumps, bumps and possible parasites.
Do you practice training commands with your dog?
?Consistency is key in dog training. Working with your dog on a regular basis builds that consistency, as well as the leadership bond you have with your pet. Dogs are also very situational creatures, so the more situations and environments you can practice commands in the better off your dog will be. If you need a little help with the basics of training, why not take advantage of a free evaluation with a trainer at your area Kennelwood Pet Resort?
Do you keep your pet safe??
Keeping your pet on a leash or in a crate when you’re not home are some safety tips that immediately come to mind. But what about microchipping, heartworm and other parasite preventatives, or making sure the gate is closed before letting your pet out into the yard? Thousands of pets go missing every year.
