As you can imagine in the outdoor pest control industry, summer is a very busy time around our office. However, for one week each yearin late June, we take a moment to step back and really focus on the reason wedo what we do: the importance of mosquito control.
This year National Mosquito Control Awareness Week fell onJune 21-27. It is one of the mostimportant weeks during our year for many reasons. We love raising awarenessabout the importance of mosquito control, to educate people about the risks ofvector borne illnesses, and of course helping to bring to light solutions tokeep your yard healthy and itch-free. As of July 21, a total of 33 states havereported West Nile virus infections in people, birds, or mosquitoes in 2015.Overall 23 cases of West Nile virus disease in people have been reported toCenters for Disease Control and Prevention. Mosquitoes are also known to carrydiseases such as heartworm, so it’s important to keep your four legged friendsprotected too. Fortunately, our barriertreatments help eliminate fleas and ticks as well.
The biggest part of the week for us is giving back as acompany. For the third year, MosquitoJoe locations across the country partnered with local blood donation centersfor our Beat the Bloodsuckers campaign. For every new customer that signed up formosquito control treatment during Mosquito Control Awareness Week, we donated10% of the sale to those local blood banks. This year we had the privilege of partnering with twenty centers acrossthe country and with the Red Cross being our largest partner, this money isgoing to help them with the disaster relief they provide everyday in ourcommunities. The Red Cross is always on standby to provide relief to thecommunity, and we feel honored to be able to help with their wonderful cause.Because of our amazing customers, we were also able to donate over $7,000 injust one week to the blood centers we partnered with.
In addition to our monetary donations, the corporate officeand our corporate-owned VA Beach – Norfolk location hosted a blood drive andcollected 25 pints of blood from our staff and technicians. We’re incrediblyproud to say that’s 75 lives saved by just giving one afternoon.
Our franchisees did an amazing job spreading our messagearound in their communities during Mosquito Control Awareness Week. Betweennews articles and TV segments, the amount of people who were reached gettingmosquito control information from Mosquito Joe was impressive. Check some ofthem out here:
