From Wall Street to 10-Unit Franchise: 28-Year-Old Not Stopping Yet. Young Entrepreneur Balances Family while Thriving at Work, Franchising Despite Downturned Economy

MIDDLETOWN, CT – Just a year ago, when the stock market began its initial descent, then 27-year-old stock broker Jonah Engler knew it was his time to shine. The bumpy economy didn’t mean anything other than an incredible and viable opportunity for this young entrepreneur, as he cashed in some stocks and focused on diversifying his portfolio through franchising and looked into a celluar phone franchise.

“I was hungry to find a personal solution to the downturn in the economy. I knew my day-to-day job was adapting to the climate, so I decided to put some eggs in another basket,” said the Brooklyn, NY resident. “I did a lot of research on recession-friendly business models. Wireless technology is improving, I thought, and no one is getting rid of their cellular phone. Wireless franchise it is.”

In April, 2008, Engler became a single-unit franchise for Wireless Zone, a 330-plus-unit franchise and premium retailer of Verizon Wireless service and products. In the following few months, Engler became so enamored by the idea of multi-unit franchise operation that he opened four more stores. Now, one year later, Engler is balancing a growing family (wife expecting their third child) and business with the opening of his 10th location.

“When I was looking at franchising, my initial thought was it costs a lot of money. But the second I walked into Wireless Zone, I instantly knew it was worth it. Engler has relied on his experience from a decade long business career to identify the perfect franchise for him. Several of his childhood friends handle the day-to-day management of the stores while Engler manages the day-to-day stock brokering for his existing clientele.
