Restaurant Franchise, McAlister's Deli, Names New SVP of Franchise Development
Bill McClintock Brings Over 23 Years of Franchise Experience to New Position
(Ridgeland, MS)---It can be difficult to get back to work after an extended holiday break but Bill McClintock is ready and raring to go. Why? If you were just named McAlister’s Deli’s senior vice president of development, your enthusiasm would be hard to contain, too.
McClintock joined the McAlister’s team with over 23 years of franchise industry experience under his belt, most recently serving as the vice president of franchise sales and development for Buffalo Wild Wings – a position in which he was directly responsible for selling over 120 new franchise development agreements, site selection and approval for all new franchise locations and growing the brand from 50 units in 1997 to over 500 units today. Prior to his tenure with Buffalo Wild Wings, McClintock held a variety of high-ranking franchise sales positions with companies including Panchero’s Mexican Grill, Discovery Zone, FutureKids and Pay N Play Recreational Systems, all of which he feels have provided him the valuable tools he will employ in his new role at McAlister’s Deli franchise.
“I was approached by a number of companies but vowed that I would not accept an offer unless I was truly passionate about the organizational culture and brand. Everything about McAlister’s – from the food to the atmosphere to people – appealed to me; there’s no way I would have accepted this position if it didn’t,” said McClintock, 58. “With nearly 300 locations, McAlister’s has shown that it is a brand that can succeed in virtually any market, any economy and has the potential to expand nationwide. It’s my goal to utilize the company’s existing systems as well as integrate some new initiatives to truly maximize its potential.”
His time with McAlister’s may have just started but McClintock is already making his mark. In the first quarter alone, he plans to establish a development plan into new U.S. regions by seeking established multi-unit food operators looking to add another brand.
“Other concepts may be shying away from growth right now but I think now is a great time to grow a quick-casual brand like McAlister’s,” said McClintock. “Landlords are more willing to negotiate leases for national tenants. McAlister’s can use this opportunity to introduce its great food offerings to more communities than ever before.”
McAlister’s Deli’s president and CEO Phil Friedman concurs, stating, “We’re back in the development game with a real star and I have no doubt that Bill will play an integral role in McAlister’s well into the future.”
Founded in 1989 by a dentist and his two sons, Ridgeland, Mississippi-based McAlister’s Deli is a quick/casual restaurant franchise chain featuring efficient counter ordering, attentive table service and high-quality deli-style foods at a great price value. The menu includes a wide variety of sandwiches, spuds, soups, salads and desserts, as well as garden-fresh vegetarian selections, a children's menu, appetizers, and beverages. The menu is designed around food products that do not have to be cooked on traditional gas-fired stoves or fryers. In addition to dine-in and take-out service, McAlister's also offers casual catering, with a selection of deli and sandwich trays, vegetable, cheese and fruit trays, breakfast trays, box lunches and desserts. Now headed by chairman, president and CEO Philip Friedman, McAlister’s Deli has over 280 restaurants operating in the United States with plans to open between 20 and 30 new restaurants in 2009.
