Full Q&A with Jeff Jervik

Jeff JervikQ: FranchiseWorks.com: Tell us a little about your brand.

A: Jeff Jervik: WellBiz Brands, Inc. is one of the largest and fastest growing health and wellness companies in the U.S. Under WellBiz Brands, Inc., there are currently two franchise organizations, Fitness Together® and Elements Massage™.

Fitness Together® provides one-on-one and small group personal training. Our small group personal training, called PACK® training, helps clients at any fitness level succeed in establishing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. There are approximately 200 locations across the country, and Fitness Together® is the largest personal training franchise company in the world. We started franchising in 1996.

Elements Massage™ is focused on one thing - providing the best therapeutic massage for clients. There are 181 open studios across the country and we started franchising in 2006. Elements Massage™ is listed as one of 2014's fastest-growing franchises in Entrepreneur magazine and is also ranked in the publication's 35th Annual Franchise 500® for its exceptional performance in areas including financial strength and stability, growth rate and system size.

Q: FranchiseWorks.com: What do you look for in a good franchisee prospect for your business? Are there certain characteristics or skillsets your top-performing franchisees seem to have?

A: Jeff Jervik: We look for individuals that had success in their prior careers. Top-performing franchisees use our proven systems and processes. They take responsibility for their successes and learn from their mistakes. They don't give up, work hard to find solutions, and can easily adapt. Passion is important, and they need to have a desire to make a difference in people's lives. Successful franchisees are collaborative with both the franchisor and other franchisees.

Q: FranchiseWorks.com: What is your biggest competitive advantage?

A: Jeff Jervik: [With Elements Massage™] we look at net promoter scores (NPS) every day and are proud that we have the best customer satisfaction in the industry. Elements Massage™ is a national franchise focused on providing therapeutic, handcrafted and personalized massages to every client - we call it The Elements Way®. Unlike other massage franchises that have added additional spa services and product lines, Elements Massage™ has remained focused on one thing, providing the best therapeutic massage in the industry. Elements Massage™ is the only massage franchise founded by a licensed massage therapist.

[With Fitness Together®] we focus solely on personal training: one client, one trainer, one goal. At Fitness Together®, members get a certified personal trainer who will push them just hard enough to get the results they are looking for, all in the privacy of our exclusive training suites. Select Fitness Together® locations also offer nutritional counseling for clients. Fitness Together® offers small group personal training, called PACK® training, which helps clients at any fitness level succeed in establishing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

PACK® training was implemented in late 2011, offering a highly personalized approach for groups of two to four people, vastly different from large group training classes at big box gyms. During PACK® training sessions, certified personal trainers lead small groups of up to four people using state-of-the-art fitness techniques that are suited to each person's individual fitness levels in a private Fitness Together® studio setting.

Q: FranchiseWorks.com: What’s a “day in the life” of one of your franchisees consist of?

A: Jeff Jervik: While it's not a requirement, our most successful studios have managers in place to run day-to-day operations. Close attention to daily operations, therapists/trainers, and the front desk staff is important. The franchisee should be focused on building the business - marketing, managing financials and establishing a proper in-studio culture for success.

Q: FranchiseWorks.com: What are the common day-to-day challenges that your franchisees face? What does your brand do to help them overcome those challenges?

A: Jeff Jervik: In the service industry, the challenge has always been and will continue to be the ability to attract and retain the best employees. To support our franchisees and their own staffing needs, we consistently evaluate and improve our recruiting and retention programs. Our hope is that each franchisee can become the employer of choice in their community. In fact, we have a senior member of my executive team whose primary role is to develop retention and recruitment programs for the franchisees to use in their local markets.

Q: FranchiseWorks.com: As you look at your brand today, anything you’re particularly proud of in terms of people, service, outreach, etc.?

A: Jeff Jervik: I am proud of both brands and what we have been able to accomplish. One accomplishment that comes to mind is that Elements Massage™ is leading the industry with the highest net promoter score - we're approximately 20 points ahead of the competition in customer satisfaction. This puts our brand in the likes of Apple, Costco and Nordstrom. Our franchisees are very proud of this and it feels good to know that our clients have a great experience each time they visit a studio.

Q: FranchiseWorks.com: What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned personally that has allowed you to excel in your position?

A: Jeff Jervik: The best ideas come from those that you support. Whether it is a franchisee or a member of the Support Center team, you need to listen to learn. After all, no one person has all the answers.

Q: FranchiseWorks.com: What’s the one thing a prospective franchisee should take away about your business?

A: Jeff Jervik: That's easy ... we change lives! Whether it's improving your client's health through fitness or massage, our brands deliver services of a higher purpose.
